HARTLAND BAPTIST CHURCH Since 1938
Being led by the Spirit of God and feeling the need for a Baptist church, in the Hartland Community, eighteen charter members met in the home of A. P. Anderson on Wednesday night, April 5, 1938, and organized the Hartland Baptist Church, with a presbytery consisting of Rev. S. B. McCall, Chairman, Rev. J. S. Silvers, Secretary and Deacon, Claywell Burns and T. N. Hallyburton. The charter members were: Mr. & Mrs. A. P. Anderson, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Branch, Sr., Mr. & Mrs. A. H. Jones, Rev. & Mrs. S. B. McCall, Mr. & Mrs. John Watson, Mrs. Ellis Arney, Mrs. Hazel Moore, W. C. Lambert, Oscar McCall, J. C. McCall, Jessie Watson, Charlie Anderson and Mrs. Annie Owens.
A building lot was purchased at the current site and the church building was erected in eight days. The first meeting was held in the new church on April 16, 1938, with 120 in Sunday School. At the end of the first year the membership was 82. The church was debt free in March, 1942, with a membership of 108. Many changes have occurred through the years; land purchases, our present brick structure constructed in 1947, construction of our parsonage in 1955, and paving of our parking lots. Again debt free in April, 1966, a building fund began for an educational building to the church. On May 19, 1974, with the addition if an educational building completed, a service was held to dedicated the building to the Lord and His service. As the church continued to grow it was necessary to remodel its facilities. Our sanctuary, original classrooms, hallways, baptistry rooms and the parsonage have all been remodeled to accomodate our growth. A picnic shelter and storage building have been added. A sound system has been installed and additional parking lots added. A full mission program is offered to each church member. These consist of Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Brotherhood, R.A.'s, Baptist Women, Acteens, G.A.'s, Mission Friends, Youth Programs and Vacation Bible School. Sixty-four years ago, God truly blessed those that gathered in the home of A.P. Anderson and continues to bless those who gather in the Hartland Baptist Church today. Many have served and contributed to the spiritual growth of the church. As a body of believers we look forward to continued growth in the Lord's service. We know God has a mission for us to fulfill and as a unified, born again body of believers, being led by the convicting Spirit of our Lord, and leadership of our pastor, we will endeavor to do the Lord's blessed will. We cannot help but to lift our voices in praise for all that has been accomplished with the blessings of our Lord and Saviour. To God Be the Glory, Great Things He Has Done. Believing that God has just got started we give thanks for what He has done, what He is doing, and look forward with great expectations of what He is going to do through the Body of Believers at Hartland Baptist Church. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! "Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed; thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation." Exodus 15:13 |
